The Melrose Area Historical Society is an affiliate of the Stearns County Historical Society.

The Melrose Area Museum is located in the spacious building that was built in 1953 as the Melrose Convent for the Church of St. Mary's sisters, who taught and worked in the parish. The collection was moved to this building in the spring of 2001. This building allows for an expanded research center and room for a working area to receive and index donations of articles for the collection.

Near St. Mary's Church and the Lake Woebegon Trail, the museum has rapidly become an asset to this area. Each room contains many exhibits to give visitors a feel of the history and heritage of the people and the communities and townships of School District 740. Each room has a theme with exhibits on a broad range of subjects, such as military, business memorabilia, clothing, kitchen and household items, furniture, religious items, local sports and photographs. Most of these items have a history relating to this area of Stearns county. The Photograph Hall contains displays of copies of many photographs of residents and families who contributed to the history of this area. The photographic files also have many old photographs donated to the collection with out identification. Visitors may take a few minutes to look over these photos and possibly help to identify the people.

A visit to the museum to view these exciting exhibits turns into a learning experience for the whole family. Dedicated and hardworking volunteers, and donations of money from numerous area businesses, organizations, and residents made the renovation and handicapped accessibility of this building possible.
